Avoiding Babylon
Avoiding Babylon was started during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. During these difficult and dark days, when most of us were isolated from family, friends, our parishes, and even the Sacraments themselves, this channel was started as a statement of standing against the tyrannical mandates that many of us were living under. Since those early days, this channel has morphed into an amazing community of friends…no…more than friends…Christian brothers and sisters…who have grown in joy and charity.
As we see it, our job here at Avoiding Babylon is to remind ourselves and those who enjoy the channel that being Catholic is a joyful and exciting experience. We seek true Catholic fraternity and eutrapelia with other Catholics who, like us, are doing their best to live out their vocation with the help of God’s Grace. Above all, we try to bring humor and joy to the craziness of this fallen world, for as Hillaire Belloc has famously said:

Like, uh, every every post-christian basically post-reformation western state is a liberal state. Um, that doesn't mean everything that they all do is evil, or all the people are, of course not. But america is a liberal state, it is a liberal state. England is a liberal state. All of western europe, since they rejected the papal states and, you know, had the revolution. They're all liberal states. So the book liberalism of a sin it deals with this and it's like you're not supposed to ever initiate liberal political activity as a catholic, you're not supposed to, um, advocate for it being correct and so on and so forth. But what happens when your only option is to operate within the liberal paradigm? And then the book is basically like you have to do your best, you're pulling lots of trolls on me today.

Speaker 2:It's gonna be great it's going um enoch, what's your, what's your view of the trump trump presidency we're about? Are you optimistic about it? Are you worried about it? Do you think we're all cause? I know a lot of Catholics and not not much conservatives, but a lot of Catholics who are very worried that we're all being lulled into complacency and we're about to. I know a few people who are saying Trump's going to be the president of disclosure and that'll make MAGA buy into the alien thing. I mean, there's a lot of curious theories. I don't really know what to make of it, so I'm just curious.

Speaker 6:That's a good question. I honestly don't know, bro. The reason is is because sometimes I get irritated with some folks who, honestly, they think they know the mind of God and they place certain events together. It's like here's this prophecy. We don't know anything. We're finite beings, so I don't really try to figure out what God is doing in a certain moment, a certain event, and try to place all these things together. All I know is that the country was better between 2016 and 2019 when he was president. In so many different ways. I think the country will be president in so many different ways. I think we'll probably the country will be better in so far as economically. I think the morale the country will be better, be more unified this time than before. But other than that, I'm going to try to stay in the state of grace and live my Catholic life as best as I can, no matter who the president is.
Speaker 4:But as far as economics go, which is part of the morale of the country for conservatives. I think it'll be better the next four years. Yeah, I think that's a good take. That's a good take. I'll second what you said there, enoch. Um, on both sides of the trump, emotionalism, yeah, there's. I saw one of these catholic commentators today. I won't say who was, but he's a, you know, famous conservative catholic and he was like this you know, I believe america was providentially founded by God and, uh, you know, trump is proof that you know, god's favor is on our country, kind of thing. And I'm like, nah, I don't buy into that. But on the other hand, the black pilled kind of rad trad thing where it's like we're all screwed, no matter what, because, you know, because Donald Trump isn't the great monarch of the French prophecy, I'm like well, I don't buy that either.
Speaker 2:It's just I'm just trying to figure out which way to bust.
Speaker 4:It's politics, it's politics, it's. As I was saying earlier, it's a liberal, it's a liberal constitution. So it's not like it's not going to be a Catholic country in the official sense. Neither will Canada, neither will even Italy at this point, neither will any of these places.
Speaker 3:Vatican city isn't right now. Well, exactly. So that's what I'm like. Why do you expect the United States of America to be one? And, and you know, yeah.
Speaker 4:And he not makes a great point about morale, like economics is boosted by morale. Like you know, if you actually look at the economic figures from the nineties under Clinton, they were really really good and it wasn't because of policy. His policies were definitely left of center. It's because, for better for worse, there was a clear cut vision that the president had and people knew where they stood. So when you look at how it's about 54% of the economy of small businesses in general and uh, when you don't have certainty, small businesses don't do things to grow, and when you don't have the small businesses growing, you don't have a growth in the economy. That's the way the Keynesian system functions, basically, whereas when you do know what the rules are, even if you don't like them, you put your money where you know you can and then you have growth in small businesses. People are under the impression that it will be good to invest into things in America, so people will do it regardless of the policy. So there will be a. The morale is linked to the economics directly.
Speaker 2:I can see differences in, first of all, just the YouTube algorithm changed, like it had to. Because when I tell you, before the election, I'm like from basically july until december, I, our channel, was in the gutter in ways I never saw before, like since we started the channel, like it was just, I never saw such low subscriber rates, I never saw such low video count, like we were not being exposed to new people at all. Ever since january 1st came, it's like a switch happened. Our like I just I just we've got a thousand subscribers in the past five days, that's.
Speaker 2:That hasn't happened since like pre-july taylor marshall on or father isaac on, and like we haven't had any like crazy guests. I mean we have calvin robinson on, but nothing that should have done that.
Speaker 2:We just had a Michael Knowles video hit 35,000 views, which hasn't happened since we did the Boris story. I mean, something's changing in the conversation with all these social media platforms, mark Zuckerberg coming out saying that he's going to loosen up. I do think Elon is somebody we have to be cautious of, even with him. Another guy I'm cautiously optimistic about I don't think Trump wins without Elon buying Twitter, like at all. There's no shot at it. He made it so that we could say things that were completely forbidden to say in the last election cycle. So there's a change in just the conversation, what we're allowed to talk about, things like that and, if nothing else, that's good in and of itself, in my opinion.
Speaker 3:Yeah, you just have to look at it essentially from the point of view of like, who can, how can you better push forward a true message? And I think that I'm pretty optimistic. Obviously I'm the token Trump supporter for this show, but I mean, as an example, today it's either today or tomorrow, but Trump is going to sign 200 executive orders. Yeah, today, yeah, today, okay, yeah, he's going to sign 200 executive orders. He was giving kind of a preview of last night. It's going to be everything from pardoning the J6ers, which we can say now on YouTube freely, which is nice to. He's going to shut down the us border. He's going to allocate military to the us border. He's going to designate all of the cartels as terrorist organizations and go after them. He's going to uh, open up a lot of the keystone pipeline and a bunch of different oil reserves. Uh, pull out of the paris climate accord. There he is, there's the man. Uh. I think we should probably cue in the music now or cue in the he's looking great.
Speaker 3:Yeah, he's the the Julius Caesar returned to Rome, if you will, he's been, he's been battled up and they, they can't do this.
Speaker 2:All right. So yeah, the Elon stuff everybody's saying like I don't trust Elon, I don't trust him either. That doesn't mean it wasn't good for the big picture of him loosening up the conversation. Like getting canceled almost isn't a thing anymore.
Speaker 3:No, it's not. I mean, that's the thing, like we can. Now I mean again, kennedy and I have been very, very critical of the concept of freedom of speech, like what it's meant by that, like there's a rightly ordered version of it that's non-existent today in classical conversations, and then there's the liberal secular version. But at the same time, if the liberals give you quote freedom of speech, at least take it and use it for your own advantage, whereas like a communist, authoritarian state's just going to force you to think a certain way and you don't have an option. So you do what you can with what you got, if you, if that makes sense and you guys think there's nothing to the disclosure thing.

Let's hope nothing happens to him now that he's in. Yeah, I'm a little hopeful at the moment, today's day one of the trump presidency. I guess we'll see how it goes from here yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 3:I said when he beat, when he got shot, people can go back and watch my video. I made a video that night. That was just kind of my raw reaction and I said he's gonna be president. America always loves a comeback story. They always love the underdog everything from rocky to star wars. It shows in our film and shows in our entertainment. So I knew he's gonna win.
Speaker 2:I think it's gonna be great yeah, I really did see this whole thing as a story and I knew something like it. It didn't seem like it could end, but like it had to end with him coming back, I guess. I just I didn't. I I don't know, man, I don't know if the deep state just gave up or if they said, all right, let's just work with this and see if they could retain any power behind the scenes or that. Because the the thing with trump that I will say is it's easy to gain his like, especially if somebody goes. I made a mistake. Can we be friends? Trump loves that, yeah, so he is a bit easy to manipulate and I do worry about that a little bit, but I'm not going to jump to conclusions until I see how things go. I really want to see him end this Ukraine war. I really do. I want to see this Ukraine thing over and I guess we'll find out in the coming weeks who's going to work with them, who's not.

Speaker 3:How do you guys feel about Vance taking the proverbial torch after Trump's gone At the moment and again, this is just at the moment, so we'll have to see how it works out in the next four years, but at the moment I would say I'm more positive about it, mostly because, when you dig down into Vance's policies, he's more nativistic than Trump is.
Speaker 3:He's more like I mean, he's more of like a true principled, hardcore, old-school, old-world conservative, whereas Trump's more like he has tendencies, but he's more of a populist in the sense of just like, let's just kind of blow up and get stuff done.
Speaker 3:So I'm very optimistic optimistic again, we'll see but I do think I will say I do think that the paradigm is now over, like I've talked about this a little bit on my show, but really since like the end of the cold war, but even before then, you had this neoliberal, neoconservative block that was what we call the deep state which has been in control of washington d for so long and they've had so much of their influence with multinational corporations, banks, foreign countries, et cetera. And I think Trump was not supposed to win 2016, got in there, they cooed him in 2020. He is now back in the presidency what I think it's done, at least for the population of America, and again, this is barring a lot of stuff like shenanigans in the future, but I think America is now done with the paradigm of neoliberalism, neoconservatism. I think it's the left. If they're wise, they're going to have to repackage themselves and form some type of leftist populism in order to gain votes again gain votes again.
Speaker 2:Well, we brought. We probably should do a show addressing this ridiculous james lindsey approach, calling everybody woke right because he's just. He's just, he's it. There's a group of liberals out there who are basically just um well, we're still liberal, we just don't like the trans stuff. That's essentially what they are it's like, but we're liberal, we want to go, we want to go back to just being like normal liberal, and they're trying to overtake the right right now by saying stuff like the woke right now, but like the liberal project is over.
Speaker 2:It didn't work, and anybody that doesn't see that, no matter what that liberal project ends in wokeness, it just always will end in this. So there has to be something different that comes forth, and it's I mean it's gonna be like the. It's going to be a populist movement that comes up from, from the, the younger generations that see this whole thing was a dead end.
Speaker 3:Go back that way again. We honestly should have a whole episode on this, because I mean, I tell people all the time like, give it 20, 30 years, the young gen z guys right now that you see on twitter, you see on instagram and stuff in those comment sections, you can easily tell that they want a like. True, we, we meme it with baron trump, but they want some type of like dictatorial figure to rise up and destroy all of the degeneracy and communism and filth in the country. Give it time. It might be a thing like you never know yeah, I.
Speaker 2:I mean, I think the only way, the only way america could survive, is if you got rid of all the degeneracy and stuff like you can't have a nation that still allows that stuff, that it'll just all deteriorate at the yeah it's the antichrist.
Speaker 6:The antichrist could come in and get rid of all the generosity and you'd fall for it, yeah and then he would claim worship for himself yeah, you never know, I mean that's the thing, that's why.
Speaker 3:That's why I always tell people like you know, you never know when the end of the world is, but also, at the same time, don't fall into the hardcore sleeping with one eye open. Everything is doomed to hell.
Speaker 3:Because to me, it's just like with the age of AI and the robots and all of this stuff, you're going to see some crazy crap come forward. So you'll never know. I do think long term that's where we will be politically in the United States, because leftism itself is cancer. It leads to absolute degeneracy. It leads to crime. I always say that the motto of the left is be gay and do crime. It's true, and you see that in every single leftist state, whether it be in Spain, whether it be in European countries, whether it be here in the last four years, and so honestly, I mean it. But it's like we need to have some type of strong right-wing person like a Francisco Franco, rise up and get rid of all of this nonsense. But it's going to have to take a very strong leader, one probably stronger than Trump. Divorce from DC? Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 3:Yes I've thought about it. Um, I think if I was to do so, I'd have to figure out exactly what I want to do when it comes to that, just because I do know that my mission as an individual is I do want to see the united states of america become a better place, but I think that some of my views, which a lot of fellow gen z men hold, I think right now they're still a little too taboo for the mainstream. But that's why I say give it 20, 30 years, because the stuff we're talking about is things like yeah, we can't. Just, you know, hey, you guys have your pornography and your gay wedding over here, and then let me stay in my church over here. We're saying no, all this societal decay has to go.
Speaker 3:We also have to address fundamental questions like who is an American and what is America for, things along that nature. And that also will be an uncomfortable conversation, because we will say, yeah, like we should be prioritizing native born Americans and talking about a European culture and a European heritage, and not saying things like 80 million people from the south of mexico should show up and all of a sudden they're americans, like that. That's insane. So those conversations will be had, I think, in the future, but at the moment I think they're a little too controversial for the mainstream, although they're becoming more normalized slowly thanks.
